LOOK AT THE SCRAPS AND BELIEVE!

Will God show up on time? Will He come through for me? What if…

We’ve all been there; at that place where the pressure from what we need to see done builds up, and we wonder if the Lord would come thru for us. Sometimes we struggle to even remember that we have a God who can provide the solutions or interventions we seek.

This is the predicament the disciples found themselves in when they got into a boat without the Lord Jesus, and got caught in a tempest. They became deathly afraid that they might perish in that storm, and forgot that they served a Master who could never let a storm kill them. After all, He Himself told them to get on the boat without Him. (See Matthew 14:22-33 for the story.)

But there was something that the disciples had with them inside the boat. They had the 12 baskets full of the leftover scraps of miraculous bread that the Lord had just fed the 5000 just a few hours ago! Remember that the Lord had told them to gather those scraps and take them with them. (See Matthew 14:14-21 For the story.)

So right there in that boat, in the midst of the terrifying storm, the disciples had the evidence that they served a Master who is all-powerful, and can deliver them from the deadly storm. But they were totally focused on the raging storm, and failed to see the significance of the scraps.

All around us there are scraps of old miracles that the Lord had done for us in the past! There are things that the Lord blessed us with in miraculous ways. There are things that ought to remind us of the great and faithful God we serve! Look around you and remember the story behind some of the things that you have all around you. Remember that if it weren’t for the Lord who provided…! Maybe your house has grown too small for your family, and doesn’t look as good as it once did; it now looks like ‘scrap’. But remember how it looked like the best house in the world when you first bought it, and how God miraculously helped you purchase it then. Your car may be all dilapidated now, and embarrasses you. But remember how God moved someone to bless you with it years ago when you desperately needed a car. Don’t know how you’ll pay your next bills? Remember those many other times when you were in that same kind of predicament and God helped you pay your bills. See your children and remember how He showed up and healed them when they were ill.

Brethren, let us grow in our walk with the Lord to the point where we learn to never forget that He is God! Let us learn to see all around us the evidence that we serve a God who is real, who is all-powerful, and who is faithful to deliver His own! In those times of extreme darkness, when it is near impossible to see the light of God, look around you and see the things He’s done in the past, and let those scraps remind you that you serve a great God who is able and faithful to deliver you from the issue that is troubling you.

THE LORD CAME WALKING TOWARDS THE DISCIPLES RIGHT IN THE MIDST OF THE STORM! There’s a huge significance in the fact that the Lord appeared right in the middle of the storm and started walking towards the disciples: It symbolizes the fact that HE WILL ALWAYS EVENTUALLY APPEAR IN THE MIDST OF THE ISSUES WE’RE DEALING WITH! The issue may last for mere moments, or for days or years, but EVENTUALLY, the Lord does show up in the midst of it to put an end to it!

Until He does, look on the things He’s done in the past to remind yourself that He who did it then, can AND WILL do it again!

GOD KNEW YOU BEFORE

So one day out of the blue, God came to Jeremiah and plainly told him: I knew you before you went into your mother’s womb. That got Jeremiah’s attention. And it got mine as well, the moment I saw the meaning of this powerful revelation.

We know that Jesus existed in heaven as God’s Son before He went into Mary’s womb to take on flesh and be born into this world as a human being. But did you ever wonder when we mortal men actually begin to exist? As believers we agree that ‘life begins at conception’. But according to God’s words to Jeremiah, the truth is far deeper than that. Here’s what God said to Jeremiah:

“Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations.” – Jeremiah 1:5 (KJV)

The key words here are “I knew thee”. So before Jeremiah was conceived and started to take on flesh in his mother’s womb, he obviously already existed! The powerful lesson here is that we begin to exist as souls first, because God starts by creating us in His image. God is Soul and Spirit. So when He first makes us, He makes us souls and spirits. That’s what we truly are. And so we begin to exist as soul and spirit before we enter our mother’s womb to be born into this world!

(We understand that it is those souls who have accepted Christ while on earth, who earn a place in heaven for eternity. So am I saying here that souls exist in heaven before they’re sent to earth? I don’t know the answer to that question. We can only know about heaven the little that God reveals to us in His word and by other means of revelation. But one thing is clear: A soul is obviously created and begins to exist at some point before it is sent into a woman’s womb. And where else but somewhere in heaven would the souls be before they are sent off to the earth? What length of time goes by between the time that a soul is created and the time that it is sent off to earth, is not known. What a soul does while waiting to be sent into a woman’s womb, is not know. How long Jeremiah existed during the time when God himself says that He knew him, we don’t know.)

Knowing that God might have actually interacted with us before we were sent into this world is a very crucial knowledge to have, because it gives us the kind of understanding that is crucial in succeeding as God’s children in this world. It was this knowledge that helped the Lord Jesus succeed, because by this knowledge He understood that He came from heaven, that He came to earth for a purpose, and that He had to go back to heaven.

Here’s one of the most powerful statements the Lord Jesus ever made:

“The reason my Father loves me is that I lay down my life—only to take it up again. 18 No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have authority to lay it down and authority to take it up again. This command I received from my Father.” John 10:17-18 (NIV)

Here, the Lord reveals to us a conversation He and the Father had prior to His coming to earth. You see, the Father gave Jesus an assignment to come to earth as a human being, teach humans about Himself and God, display the power and glory of God through miraculous deeds, show men the way to God, then die to atone for the sins of men. AND THEN, RESURRECT and come back to heaven.

It was during this interaction that the Lord was given His mission to earth. And what we learn from God’s words to Jeremiah is that He had had that same type of conversation with Jeremiah at some point before sending Jeremiah down into his mother’s womb.

God had that same type of conversation with you and I!!!

Unfortunately, as we are born into this world as humans, we forget all about any conversation that we might have had with the Father before being sent into this world. But our Father remembers!!! So just as at some point He reminded Jesus and Jeremiah, He can remind you too!

All you need is to ask Him. God is excited when He sees our faith in Him! Especially when it’s faith that comes from a deep understanding that we have of Him. In this case, this understanding ought to make you deeply appreciate the idea that the great God who made the heavens and the earth, actually knew you personally, and gave you a specific assignment before sending you into this world. And this ought to make you determine to live for nothing else in this world other than fulfilling that assignment!

YOUR GREATNESS IS IN BEING THAT PERSON GOD SENT YOU TO BE IN THIS WORLD. It’s in fulfilling the tasks that He has assigned for you to do in His name and to His glory.

‘I think, therefore, I am’. We all know this quote by the French theoretician Rene Descartes very well. And also Proverbs 23:7For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he…” (KJV). These two statements attest to the power of the consciousness of oneself, and there’s nothing more dangerous to a man than the lack of, or inadequate, consciousness of who he is an individual.  As long as the Lord Jesus kept His focus on this understanding of whom He was and what He was on earth for, He was able to focus on accomplishing the tasks given to Him by the father, and was able to make it back to heaven.

Therefore, brethren, I urge you to begin to see yourself as not just an individual in this world, but as someone on a special assignment given to you by the Father Himself! See yourself as the ambassador of the Kingdom of heaven that you are! An ambassador sent to represent the kingdom of heaven on earth, with specific instructions. Therefore, go to your Father in prayer and ask Him to reveal to you what He had in mind concerning you before sending you into this world! Then let the knowledge of who He sent you to be in this world be the guiding purpose for the rest of your life, to His glory!

AND GOD SHUT HIM IN!

‘Per ardua, as astra.’ That’s Latin for ‘through adversity to the stars.’

So Noah got all the animals and his family into the ark and shut the single door of the ark behind him, and they all settled in and got ready for the foretold deluge to hit the ground, right? Not quite!

According to Genesis 7:16 “… the Lord shut him in. (KJV)

After Noah, his family and the animals got into the ark, GOD HIMSELF shut the single door of the ark from the outside! By shutting that door Himself, God assumed total responsibility over Noah and everyone and everything that were inside the ark!

Here’s one of the powerful things to understand about what happened in the story of Noah: When the flood started to inundate the earth, people began to drown, and those who could get into boats did so. But eventually, their boats proved to be incapable of withstanding the force of the raging floods. The boats broke apart and the people in them perished.

There was another factor in play: atmospheric pressure. The flood had swelled to such a level that, as we read in Genesis 8:4 “…and on the seventeenth day of the seventh month the ark came to rest on the mountains of Ararat.” (NIV) So the flood had risen so high that it carried the ark to such a high altitude that after the flood began to recede, the ark came to rest on top of a mountain!

Now, note that this event took place in an era so primitive that there was no way Noah could have built the ark in a way that the ark could have survived the effects of atmospheric pressure! Every other boat that existed at that time was destroyed by the elements of nature except Noah’s ark! Why? Because God had assumed responsibility over it!!!

So here are some powerful lessons from all this:

1. Noah’s ark is a representation of Christ, therefore, of Christianity.

As that ark was the only means of escape from the flood provided by God, so is Christianity the only means of escape from the coming judgment that God has provided for mankind. As every other boat eventually failed to save its occupants, so will every other faith in this world fail its followers in the end. Christ is the only way to escape both the floods of this current life, and the condemnation that leads to hell.

2. The single door of the ark is a representation of Christ.

God had commanded Noah to build only one door on the ark (see Genesis 6:16). It was thru that one door that they all went into the ark. So does Christianity have only one way into it, which is Jesus-Christ!

3. The storms of life are never meant to kill a believer in Christ!

The heavy rains beat upon the ark, but never harmed the people inside. As the heavy rains fell, they gathered up under the ark and formed a raging flood that could never capsize the ark. So do the storms and floods of life beat upon God’s people, but can never destroy them, because they are hidden inside Jesus. Apostle Paul said it best in Acts 17:28: For in him we live, and move, and have our being (KJV) So just as the storms beat up on the ark and not on the people inside the ark, neither can the storms of life harm us, because we are hidden in Christ. Therefore, fear nothing in this world!!! Any harm that would come upon a believer would have to go through Christ first! As we know, that’s impossible!

4. Rather, the storms of life are meant to lift the believer to greater heights in life!

The flood lifted the ark to a level so high that when the ark started coming back down, it rested upon a mountain. So do the floods that God allows to come upon our lives lift us up in life! God is a Master Planner! Every hardship He allows into your life is always designed to lift you up in life! And note that the ark was carried around by the flood, so that in the end, the ark ended up at a different place than where Noah had built it. So are the hardships God allows into our lives designed to move us from where we have been stagnant, to new and higher places!

5. The storms are God’s teaching and training tools

Being ‘shut into Christianity’ means to abandon oneself into God’s hands, and allowing yourself to be constrained within the confines of Christianity. It means saying to Him: Have your way with me, Lord. I will only do what you say I should do, and will never do anything you say not to do. I will follow your ways only. It means depending on Him for everything in life, and aspiring to be nothing else in life but that person that He purposed for you to be here on earth.

Dependence on God is no easy thing, and must be learned, and God uses the difficult situations that He allows to come upon us, to teach us to trust and depend on Him for help, provision, well-being, protection, etc.

One example of this from the ark, is the fact that the ark had been subjected to the rigors of atmospheric pressure due to the high altitude that it had been carried to. So this must have created a severe panic in the hearts of Noah and his people, as they feared and wondered whether the ark would be able to sustain the effects of atmospheric pressure. This is the kind of fears that believers encounter when they find themselves in situations where God is telling them to be still and know that He is God! Pressure builds from every side against us, and the attacks from the enemy can get so intense, and all we can do is wait on the Lord to see us through. Just as Noah was not driving the ark, and must have feared that the ark might smash into a mountain or fall off a cliff, we have absolutely no control over the situation we’re dealing with, and have no idea if we would make it to the end alive. Like Noah, we can only trust that God knows what He is doing. But like the ark and everyone in it, we do survive! Because Jesus, in whom we have entrusted our lives and look unto, can protect us and hold us together in the face of any kind of pressure! Jesus was that ark that carried and protected Noah and his people, and He can protect against anything in this universe!

Another powerful lesson from the ark is in how God is able to provide for, and sustain His people. At high mountain altitudes, it becomes harder to breathe because there is less oxygen in the air. But Noah and everyone in the ark had no trouble surviving up there when the ark was carried up to the mountain levels. So does our Lord make sure His people never succumb to the lack of anything, no matter how scarce the hardship they’re undergoing tries to make things in their lives! He provides them with what they need! Haven’t you read that “God is our refuge and strength; an ever-present help in trouble” (Psalm 46:1, NIV), and that “…those who seek the Lord lack no good thing (Psalm 34:10, NIV)?

6. We must build our Christianity right!

Brethren, here’s one extremely crucial thing to understand from all this: The ark ‘worked’ because God had accepted it. Had Noah not built the ark exactly the way God had commanded, God wouldn’t have approved of the ark, and would not have been with Noah and his people inside the ark. Like the ark, our Christianity must be ‘built’ according to the design that Christ has put forth in the Bible. And what is our ‘Christianity’? Our relationship with God. Every believer has his own personal relationship with God, and this relationship must be based on the ways that God commanded us to relate to Him. Take for example, the fact that God told Noah to build only one door into the ark. Our Christianity must have only one door: Jesus. But some of us have other doors, through which they can escape when things get tough for them. That’s the kind of believers with one foot inside Christianity and one foot in the world. When things get tough, they still try to do things the way the world does it, instead of relying firmly on the God is showing them. We must be perfect in building our Christianity – our relationship with God – the way He wants it. By commanding Abraham to be perfect before Him (see Genesis 17:1), God made it clear that we must be perfect in our walk with Him. We must be perfect in following His commands! And if we do so perfectly, then we WILL see His power and glory at work in our lives, just as Abraham and Noah saw it!

7. We must die ‘the required death’!

Noah and his people ‘died’ when they went into the ark. When they marched into that ark and let God shut them into it, they literally died to the lives they had been living, and abandoned their lives into God’s hands. Likewise, Christianity is about dying to the life you once lived, and letting God shut you into a new life that He alone has total control over! That’s the death the Lord Jesus said we must die in John 12:24-26Very truly I tell you, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds. 25 Anyone who loves their life will lose it, while anyone who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life. 26 Whoever serves me must follow me; and where I am, my servant also will be. My father will honor the one who serves me.” (NIV)

There are principally two kinds of believers out there: Those who have agreed to let the Lord shut them into Christianity, and those who haven’t. The story of Noah is all about COMMITMENT. It’s the story of a man who was totally committed to the will of God. God showed him something that was about to happen, and told him what to do to escape the coming calamity. He heard what God said and committed himself to obeying to the letter, the instructions that he received from God. That, in turn, made it possible for God to be God in Noah’s life. That made it possible for His power and glory to manifest in Noah’s life. That’s what the Lord promised at the end of the passage quoted above, that “my Father will honor the one who serves me.”

This is why the majority of believers in this world are not showing forth the glory and power of our great God. They are not as committed to following His lead in their lives as Noah did, and as did the great heroes of faith that we find in the Bible! They fail to abandon their lives to His divine care as Noah did. They refuse to let God shut them into Christianity, therefore, INTO HIS DIVINE CARE! And the sad result is that they fail to allow the power and glory of God to manifest in their lives.

CONCLUSION:

Because Noah died to himself and agreed to live the life that God had for him, Noah produced many seeds indeed by becoming the father of all mankind! That’s what the Lord explained in John 12:24: ‘If it dies, it produces many seeds’. Because Abraham agreed to die to his old life and live for God only, he produced many seeds indeed and became the father of nations! The Lord Jesus agreed to leave His throne and come to earth to live the life that the Father has planned for Him. He died to His throne above to live in obedience to God on earth (see Hebrews 5:8-9). As a result, He has produced countless believers for the last 2000 years and counting!

You who are reading this, what’s your excuse for not being productive for God??? If your Christianity has been built the way God commands, and you have truly died to yourself and are alive only for Christ, where’s the evidence? Where are the fruits produced by your death! Where are the souls that are being won over by your life? If you are indeed laboring for your Master Jesus, where are the harvest produced by your labor?

The greatest irony in the Church is that every believer would love to see the power of God move mightily in his or her life, but the majority are not willing to do what it takes to see that power at work in their lives. They’re not willing to die the death that allows the power of God to go to work in a believer’s life; they’re not willing to allow God to shut them into the kind of commitment in which he can be their all and all.

Christianity is not easy. That’s why the Lord made it plain that anyone who decides to follow Him must know what he is doing. He said in Luke 14:28 For which of you, intending to build a tower, sitteth not down first, and counteth the cost, whether he have sufficient to finish it?

Deciding to follow God all the way, to let Him shut you inside Christ, is not a small decision. It wasn’t small of Noah to decide whether to build the ark or not. It wasn’t small of Abraham to leave his whole world behind and set out for Canaan. But they decided to be obedient to their God, and they lived to enjoy the fruits of their decision! That’s why I started this message by quoting ‘Per ardua, as astra’: Through adversity to the stars. Allowing oneself to be shut into Christianity brings one into a world of adversity ordered by God Himself. But it is through those very forms of adversity (floods) that God takes one to great heights in life!

Therefore, I challenge you, dear brethren, to allow God to shut you inside of Christ! Allow Him to be your all and all. Give Him absolute control over your life. Do that and watch Him take you to heights that you can’t even imagine! The world needs to see the greatness of God in you so that they might believe in Him. Allow God to use you to showcase His greatness to the world! Allow Him to shut you in!

CALL IT FORTH!

Jesus didn’t curse the fig tree to die. So why did the tree die? All He said to the tree was “may you never bear fruit again.” (See Matthew 21:18-22 for the story)

But because of a command given by God to all plants in Genesis 1:11-12, the fig tree died when Jesus simply told it never to bear fruit again. Why? Because the tree could not disobey the command given in Gen. 1:11-12, which says that every LIVING seed-bearing plant MUST BE FRUITFUL! So since the Lord now commanded the tree not to be fruitful any more, the tree could no longer stay alive, in disobedience to the command given to all plants in Gen. 1:11-12!

Now what did the Lord do that set off this chain of events? He spoke.

All the Lord did was to speak a word to the fig tree, and the tree obeyed and did even more than what the Lord had commanded it to do! This is what the Lord explained to the disciples when they asked what had happened to the tree. He told them “Truly I tell you, if you have faith and do not doubt, not only can you do what was done to the fig tree, but also you can say to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and it will be done.” (Matthew 21:21, NIV)

You see, brethren, this powerful thing that the Lord taught us here is possible because ALL THINGS THAT HAVE BEEN CREATED HAVE THE ABILITY TO HEAR THE SPOKEN WORD! All things were created by God’s spoken word, and they all remain subject to the spoken word. So whenever a command is given to them by the spoken word, they can hear and obey it!

God, who spoke them into being, made us in His own image, thus giving us the power to do the same things that He can do, such as speaking words that all things created can hear and respond to, just as they can hear and respond to His words. Therefore, you have the power and authority to make changes in your own life, and In the lives of others, by issuing commands for things to be the way you want them to be! Do not keep silent! Speak and command mountains to move out of yours and other people’s lives! Call forth things that are not as though they were! Command the sick to be healed! Command that bad situations be turned around! Command demons to flee! Speak beauty into ugly things! Speak solutions into hopeless situations!

Now here’s another great news: The command given in Gen. 1 goes further to pertain to animals as well (verses 20-25), and by extension, to us humans as well! I was once a seed in my father’s loins, as was he once in his own father’s loins, and as was his father in his own father’s loins, and so on… It has been, therefore, established that men are born with their own seeds within them, which they can choose to reproduce as children someday!

Therefore, if you are seeking the fruit of womb, despair not. Call forth your children! AS YOUR PARENTS WERE BORN WITH YOU AS SEED WITHIN THEM, SO WERE YOU BORN WITH SEEDS INSIDE OF YOU!!! THEREFORE, CALL FORTH YOUR CHILDREN! They are inside of you, and your body must respond to the word of the Lord and be fruitful! Speak to your body to bring forth the children it already carries! Do not let any devil lie to you that when it came for your turn to be born, you were born without seed! LIE!!! Whose report will you believe??? The report of the Lord in Genesis 1 says that you are a seed-bearing creature! Therefore, command your seeds to come forth!

If you’ve been seeking a spouse, despair not! Because THE SIMPLE FACT THAT YOU EXIST MEANS THAT YOUR OTHER HALF IS OUT THERE SOMEWHERE! Genesis 1:27-28 says it all: “So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.” (NIV)

WHEN GOD MADE MAN, HE ASLO MADE THE WOMAN AT THE SAME TIME! The woman was hidden inside the man, and was brought out of the man later on in Genesis 2:21-25. God even used a piece of the man – one of his ribs – to form the woman, so that the man and the woman share the same ‘spiritual DNA’. THEREFORE, FOR EVERY WOMAN IN THIS WORLD, THERE’S A MAN OUT THERE THAT SHE CAME OUT OF, AND FOR EVERY MAN IN THIS WORLD THERE’S A WOMAN OUT THERE THAT CAME OUT OF HIM.

So if you’ve been looking for a spouse, despair not! Call him/her forth! The fact that you exist means your spouse is out there as well! If you’re a man, call forth the woman God brought out of you! If you’re a woman, call forth the man that you came out of! Command that your paths should cross, that you may finally be together!

Let me repeat this: This world was created and established upon the spoken word. Therefore, it can be altered by the spoken work at any time! And the power and authority to speak things into being resides in you and I, just as it resides in the God who spoke this world into being. Use this power and authority to speak and call forth the things that you need in this world! An ambassador in a foreign country speaks for the head of state who sent him to the foreign country. As an ambassador of Heaven, use the authority of God who sent you to represent Him in this world to speak and fulfill His divine purposes in this world! Evil thrives where godly people stay silent. Therefore, speak up and command godly change in the world around you!

Speak up, command and call forth the glory of our great God in your life for the world to see and believe in Him!

WHERE HAS THE TIME GONE..?

Maybe you’re old enough to have been there. At those times when a person can hardly wait to grow older for one reason or the other, mostly so he can do things that he can’t do now because he isn’t old enough. Then before he knows it, he comes of age to do those things. But, even faster than he can realize it, he begins to grow old and begins to lose the ability to do much of anything.

As believers, this is the same process that our spiritual beings undergo in the realm of the spirit. When we receive Christ, our spirits are born again and we start off as babies in the Lord, and it is expected of us that we should grow and mature spiritually, the same way we do physically.

A spiritually immature believer is like a 40-year-old child; like a 40-year-old individual who failed to grow both physically and mentally.

This is the single biggest problem the Church of our Lord Jesus-Christ has suffered from since her inception.

A 40-year-old man or woman is expected to be actively productive in every way possible: Married with children, generating income, raising the children well, make good contributions to the community in some way, etc.

Likewise a believer MUST mature into a productive individual who is producing results in the kingdom of God! THERE’S NO EXCUSE FOR A BELIEVER NOT TO BE DOING SOMETHING TO ADVANCE THE WORK OF THE KINGDOM!!!

In the parable of the sower, the Lord Jesus said that of the seeds that fell on GOOD soil, some reproduced 30 times, some 60, and some 100 times. (see Mark 4:1-8)

THE POINT IS: THEY PRODUCED SOMETHING, even if it was just 30 times. The single thing that differentiated the seeds that fell on good soil from those that fell on bad soils was the fact that they reproduced and multiplied, while the ones on bad soils were hindered from producing by various factors.

As the world is littered with grown men and women in their 40s, 50s, 60s, etc., who are looking around their lives and can’t see achievements that they can be proud of, and are wondering where the time has gone, so is the Church full of believers who couldn’t show you the fruits of their labors for the Lord. They have no personal ministry, no means by which they are sharing the knowledge of God with the lost, and no means by which they are battling the evil that they see in the world around them. Even their lives are not good examples of how a believer in a holy God ought to live. It doesn’t matter at all to them that there are places in this world where the Holy Bible is unheard of and unavailable.

How old are you spiritually? For how long have you known Christ? Would you consider yourself a baby or a grownup in Him? If you see yourself as a spiritually mature grownup in Christ, can you identify any ways in which you have been productively impacting even a small portion of this world for Christ?

You’re not getting younger, but older, and will soon find yourself too old to even go out to hand out gospel tracts in the streets. Therefore, serve the Lord with everything in you NOW THAT YOU CAN! So that by the time you’ve grown too old and weary to do the work, you would have raised other mature believers who are busy carrying on the work of the Lord!

Don’t let it turn out to be that you were either a rocky soil, or a thorny soil, or a shallow soil, on which the word of God that has been spoken to you could not germinate and reproduce. Rather let it be that the word of salvation and love of God came into you and bore great fruits as you shared it with others and allowed God to use you to do His mighty works!

Don’t find yourself wondering in latter years where the time has gone. Rather go and be great for God!

GOT GRACE?

King Herod loved to hear John-the-Baptist, even though John always gave him grief over his illicit affair with his brother’s wife…  You’ve probably heard or read the statement “God will never lead you where His grace will not be with you”. Very true statement, because God would never set you up for failure; and without the backing of His grace, you will find it very hard to succeed in your endeavors.

That’s how crucial grace is! Grace is ‘unmerited favor’ from the Lord. Favor from the Lord opens doors; makes hard things simple; makes impossible things possible; provides divine and miraculous help from above; puts angels to work on our behalf; causes people to be favorable towards us; helps to succeed where others have failed; causes the elements of creation to work for us; and so on… And grace is that unmerited favor from the Lord, which does all these wonderful things in a believer’s life.

Grace is unmerited, because it is something that God chooses to bestow upon a believer. A good human father who has the power to do all things will be willing to help his child in every way possible. Grace is that willingness from God to divinely and supernaturally help His children succeed and enjoy life in this world. The only condition is… that we be in God’s will for our lives.

This is why it is indispensable that a believer always be where God wants him to be at any given time! God has designed a particular life for each of us; this means that there’s a specific place that He has ordered that we must be, according to the plan that He has made for us. WHERE GOD HAS ORDERED FOR US TO BE IS WHERE HE HAS ORDERED HIS GRACE TO WORK FOR US.
Needless to say then, that one of the chief reasons that believers struggle in life is that they are not where God has purposed for them to be. They’re living and working outside His will for them, where they don’t get to enjoy the power of His grace in their lives.

As long as John-the-Baptist was where God wanted him to be, he enjoyed a serious dose of grace! According to Mark 6:20, King Herod, whom John rebuked constantly, was afraid of john, and enjoyed listening to him. Instead of trying to kill John, Herod loved him. That’s an example of how grace from God can cause even your enemies to love you. During Abraham and Isaac’s days, their rivals and enemies came and begged them to be at peace with them, because God’s favor that was upon them caused the dread of heaven to fall upon their enemies for their sakes!

So John was able to get away with saying to people things they didn’t want to hear. So does a minister who is ministering where and how God wants him to minister, enjoy divine grace, help, protection and success from above! The problem is when we fail to see where God has ordered for us to be; how He has ordered for us to serve Him; what He would have us do; how He would have us do it… In John-the-Baptist’s case, he failed to understand what set time had come upon his life.

You see, John was called to proclaim and announce the coming of the Lord Jesus. So obviously, this ministry of announcing the coming of Jesus was supposed to end the day Jesus started His own ministry. If you’re announcing that somebody is coming and the person comes, do you continue to announce that he is coming? No. But John kept on baptizing and preaching. What message was he preaching now, since God did not give him any new message to preach? Therefore, he was now clearly operating outside the will of God for him. Here’s what should have happened: Now that Jesus had started His ministry, John should have sought to know from God what he was to do next.

Personally, I believe that John should have become Jesus’ very first disciple! Now that his Master had come and started His ministry, he should have placed himself at his Master’s service. He should have started following Jesus to hear and see what Jesus had come to say and do. And it is this failure to follow Jesus that caused him to start doubting whether Jesus was truly the Messiah or not. This is why when John sent his disciples to Jesus to ask if He was indeed the Messiah, Jesus told them to tell him that the blind are seeing, the deaf are hearing, and the cripple are walking. That was to tell John that if he had been here  with Jesus like he should have been, he would have seen the Lord do those miracles for himself, and would have no doubt that Jesus is indeed the Messiah.

You see, brethren, as long John was doing what he was supposed to be doing ACCORDING TO GOD’S PLAN FOR HIS LIFE, the grace of God was with him, and he was untouchable! But when he failed to see the new direction that he was to take in life and follow Jesus, but kept on ministering and announcing the coming of Jesus, the grace moved on from him, and the same Herod, who used to enjoy listening to his rebukes and insults, had him arrested. And, before long, he was killed.

Never dwell outside the will and plan of God for your life! His grace is available for you only where He has purposed for you to be; only in the particular ministry He has called you into; only at the particular church where He has purposed for you to worship and serve Him; only with the particular spouse He has made for you; only in the job He has purposed for you; and so forth…

Someone eloquently said “if your will is God’s will, you will have your will”. If what you set out to do is what God wants you to be doing in the first place, then His grace will be with you in doing that thing, and success would be guaranteed for you.

Grasp this understanding and determine to make His will for your life your will for your life! Make out time to earnestly seek His face to know exactly where He has purposed for you to be in every area of your life. That’s where His grace and the hosts and powers of heaven are waiting to work for you and help you accomplish the great things that God has purposed for you to accomplish, to His glory!

YOU NEED THE PRESENCE OF GOD IN YOUR LIFE!

One of the greatest tragedies in Christianity is the fact that most believers absolutely lack any understanding of what it means that the presence of God is with them. One of the Lord Jesus’ names is Emmanuel, which means God-with-us. Therefore, by receiving Jesus-Christ into one’s life, one receives ‘God-with-us’, which means that one receives the in-dwelling presence of God into one’s life, commonly known as the presence of the Holy Spirit.

There’s an event that took place in the days of King David that gives us a powerful revelation of the significance of the presence of God in an individual’s life. It’s the story of the time when King David attempted to bring the ark of God back to Jerusalem from the land of the Philistines where it had been held in captivity for years. David and his people set the ark on a cart and headed back to Jerusalem. We read in 2Samuel 6:6-12:

And when they came to Nachon’s threshingfloor, Uzzah put forth his hand to the ark of God, and took hold of it; for the oxen shook it. And the anger of the Lord was kindled against Uzzah; and God smote him there for his error; and there he died by the ark of God. And David was displeased, because the Lord had made a breach upon Uzzah: and he called the name of the place Perezuzzah to this day. And David was afraid of the Lord that day, and said, How shall the ark of the Lord come to me? 10 So David would not remove the ark of the Lord unto him into the city of David: but David carried it aside into the house of Obededom the Gittite. 11 And the ark of the Lord continued in the house of Obededom the Gittite three months: and the Lord blessed Obededom, and all his household. 12 And it was told king David, saying, The Lord hath blessed the house of Obededom, and all that pertaineth unto him, because of the ark of God. So David went and brought up the ark of God from the house of Obededom into the city of David with gladness.” (KJV)

The major points of this story are:

  • David became afraid to bring the ark into Jerusalem, lest it kills more people.
  • He decided to leave the ark in the field of a man named Obed-Edom.
  • God blessed Obed-Edom within the space of 3 months.
  • The blessing was such that even King David heard of it!

Here’s what powerful about all this: The name Obed-Edom means ‘Obed of Edom’, or ‘Obed the Edomite’. Therefore, Obed was a descendent of Edom, that is, Esau, Jacob’s brother. This means that there was a serious curse that operated in Obed-Edom’s life: The curse of Esau. This curse put every descendent of Esau under every descendent of Jacob. For this reason, the Edomites who dwelled among the Jews were treated as second-class folks. So much so that when King David became afraid of the ark, he decided to leave it on the property of Obed-Edom, with the reasoning that if the ark must kill people, let it kill those in Obed-Edom’s house. That’s how insignificant the lives of Obed-Edom and his household were to David because of the curse at work.

So when the Presence of God came into the house of Obed-Edom, it broke this curse and turned the situation around between Obed-Edom and David in such a way that if not for the eternal covenant that God had with David, God might have let Obed surpass David! God had planned before the creation of this world that David’s throne would be eternal since Jesus would come into this world through David’s lineage and reign forever. For this reason, God granted David mercy and grace and arranged for him to hear about what was happening in Obed-Edom’s house. This is why David ran to get the ark out of there! And it is also why he danced so hard when he finally brought the ark into Jerusalem. He had seen how powerfully the ark could bless people, and rejoiced because he was bringing this great Presence of God into his own city!

Kings don’t usually hear about every little thing that’s happening in the kingdom. Court officers only share important information with their kings. So what God began to do in the life of Obed-Edom was so powerful that King David’s officers felt the need to tell him about it! In fact Obed-Edom’s case is a classic example of the saying ‘the stone the builders rejected has become the chief cornerstone!’ Here’s how this saying apply to this case: In the days of the kings, a person’s wealth determined his status in the society, and the very wealthy one were treated like kings. The common people flocked to the wealthy people for help with all kinds of matters, including passing judgment between them, just as they would go to the king. This is why, when Absalom wanted to dethrone his father King David, he went and sat at the King’s gate and directed the people to him for all their needs and issues. He helped them with their needs, and judged between them. Thus, he usurped his father’s office and position before the people. Instead of fighting his own son over the power of the kingdom, David chose to abdicate and leave the palace for Absalom. If Obed-Edom had been left alone with the ark in his house, he too could have grown in power and influence over King David.

In order for you to grasp the enormity of what happened in Obed-Edom’s life, consider this: It is the work and power of the curse of Esau that we are still witnessing today in the Middle-East between the Israelis and the Palestinians. No United Nations intervention and no deals brokered between the Israelis and Palestinians by anybody will ever break the hold that the Israelis have on the Palestinians. Isaac said to Esau that if he succeeded in breaking off the yoke that the curse has placed on his neck, then he would become free from it (see Genesis 27:40). The uprisings that the Palestinians engage in today is called ‘Intifadah’, which means ‘break off’.  As we know, they keep trying to break off the Israelis’ hold on them, and never succeed!

This is why it is such a powerful thing that God was willing to break this curse in the life of Obed-Edom. Here are some powerful lessons from this:

  • Whom God curses, no one can bless!
  • Whom God curses, He can turn around and bless!

Think about this: Could God bless someone while keeping his curse on the person? He had to first of all cancel the curse of Esau in order for His blessing to work in Obed-Edom’s life. THIS IS THE AWESOME BENEFIT THAT BELIEVERS GET TO ENJOY FOR HAVING THE PRESENCE OF GOD IN THEIR LIVES! He comes into our lives ready to destroy every curse that may have been operating in our lives, and to replace it all with His awesome blessings! This is why if God is with you, who can be against you??? If God’s presence is with you, how can any curse work against you? How could He stand idly by while some curses are waging war against you?!? Rather He moves in and looks around your life, and sets out to destroy everything in your life that has been causing you trouble! In Obed-Edom’s case, verse 12 says “The Lord hath blessed the house of Obededom, and all that pertaineth unto him, because of the ark of God.”

The keyword in that passage is ‘pertaineth’. It means that God went to work to bless Obed-Edom everything that even remotely pertained to the man. If a matter concerned Obed-Edom in any way at all, God dealt with it on his behalf to give him victory in the matter! This is what God wants to be able to do in the life of every single child of His in this world, and it pains Him so much to see His children suffering at the hands of various curses, all because we fail to live lives that would be conducive to His divine and Holy Presence!

Brethren, I pray that as you read these words, you develop a deep hunger for the presence of God in your life, and that you determine yourself to walk in holiness and righteousness, that the Lord might be willing to dwell in your life. You simply cannot make it as a Christian without his holy presence in your life because, as we know, the kingdom of God – Christianity – is righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Ghost (Romans 14:17).  It is only His presence in you that can place His righteousness on you, and enable you to have His supernatural peace and joy flowing in you.

Make your life conducive to God’s divine presence, and begin to see His awesome power at work in your life, to His glory!
